Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Despite the hest efforts of Italian air traffic controllers to make this the launch that never was, Iveco has finally managed to reveal the secrets of the newest additions to the Stralis family.

• by Cohn Barnett When Iveco launched the Stralis Active Space range last year, it was clear that this was just the first step in a programme to update all of the Italian firm's heavy trucks. The second, and most important step has now arrived, with the unveiling of two new models aimed at the local and regional distribution sectors. Continuing the Stralis naming policy, the new models are the Active Day, with a short, low day cab, and the Active Time, with either low-roof single sleeper or medium-roof double versions.

The most obvious change, of course, is the new cab. Truck spotters can identify the newcomers by the grille, which has two cross bars (compared with three on the Active Space), and by the shorter corner air deflectors. Less obvious is the 200mm reduction in width.

Although based on a similar frame to the previous EuroTech and EuroStar cabins, the new models have completely fresh outer panels and interior. The narrower cabs are also mounted some 150mm lower, to improve access via nonslip steps, and ride on new cab suspension, with air mounts at the front and two coil springs behind.

The cab incorporates the latest front under-run protection, while the bumper has easily replaceable corners. The leading edge of the cab roof has a very large radius and the roof can have an adjustable air deflector blade, two or three position according to cab height. The new door handles will be also be fitted to future Active Space models.

Multiplex electrics mean 45% less wiring in the vehicle. The cab features distinctive red cloth trim, with decent quality off-white plastic mouldings.

A high-mounted lower bunk has a 120mm thick mattress, with the option of a second on the medium-height. In the bunk area, a single module controls heater, lights, roof hatch, radio and windows.

For the UK, Iveco has taken the unusual step of specifying the Eurotronic automated transmission as standard on all models, with manual boxes as an extra cost option.

Cursor 8-powered models get drum brakes on the rear, albeit with ABS and electronic brake limiting. All other versions get discs all round, with VVabco EBS incorporating ABS, and ASR traction control.
