HE Road Haulage Association's love to its new headquarters in ulham, South-west London, rent like "clockwork", accords to Ben Maguire, the RHA Kecutive officer responsible for le move. TIM COBB reports.
"It has all gone very well", he ]id, while desperately trying to )nnect his phone on Monday iorning. "To the best of my iowledge there has been no )rious loss or damage to the Dods in transit."
Furniture and office equiplent was transported by mem ber company Trenchards of Poole, who offered the most competitive deal with an insurance cover of 08,000 for all items moved.
But Mr Maguire pointed out that the RHA did not get any special discount. It simply got the best deal it could by opting for Trenchards.
Three lorries were used and seven loads were shipped in all. Over 300 2ftxlft6inxlft6in crates were used to carry files, books and general stationery, while specialist equipment such as computers and photocopying machines was transported last week.
The pattern of the removal was to have one lorry starting at the Fulham base, while the two others loaded up and carried goods from Upper Woburn Place in the West End. The vehicles started at 8am on Thursday, last week, and carried on until 6pm each night. The last journey was on Saturday and all furniture and equipment had been transferred by midday.
The new head office has five floors, but Trenchards' removal team of six unloaders and four loaders had no difficulty coping with this.
The only hitch in the move was the re-laying of a suspended floor. "The builders should have completed this by now", Mr Maguire explained, "but it will probably be finished by the end of the day."
