OVER 100 heavy goods vehicles travelling into Gwent by the M4 were stopped by police for official checks during a four hour period last week.
In the biggest ever spot check operation carried out by the Gwent police, 39 offences were detected when the lorries were diverted off the motorway on to the new Coldra weighbridge (CM, March 20).
The offences included overloading, documentation and vehicle defects; two vehicles were taken off the road in too serious a condition to continue.
