EDWARD HEATH will be a welcome guest speaker at the RHA's Tipcon at Harrogate from May 14-16 but will he have the rapturous reception accorded to him at the association's annual dinner in London before he became Prime Minister?
As, after the meal, he slowly and majestically ascended the curving staircase from the Great Room at Grosvenor House, beaming and waving benignly to more than 1,000 estatically clapping, cheering, gesticulating guests, I was reminded of VE day. Here was the new saviour of the road haulage industry.
If he did not altogether live up to his promises on the Transport Act, 1968, that's politics for you.
