MAN-VW plans to build on its initial British success in the British coach market with the European-built high-specification integral MAN SR280.
It also intends widening its coach range with the introduction of a conventional chassis, suitable for bodying in Britain. The first righthand drive chassis has already been completed. It is powered by the same turbocharged 280bhp engine used in the SR280, and will be offered with full air suspension. Price of the rear-engined chassis, designated 16:280HOCL, is expected to be particularly competitive with both rear-engined and mid-engined heavyweights.
MAN-VW hopes that the chassis will fill the gap between its MTbased midicoaches and its top-of-the-range highand normal-height SR280s.
Production for Britain is being planned in advance with a number of standard vehicle options being offered in a bid to cater for likely demand and to minimise certification problems.
The company hopes to double its sales performance by supplying 60 units this year.
