Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• British vehicle manufacturers face financial disaster after 1992 because they are ignoring the Continental market, a transport specialist has claimed.

Companies like ERE, AWD and Plaxtons do not put enough emphasis on employing sales staff who speak French or German, says former British Leyland marketing manager, Mike Knowles.

Knowles, who is now a selfemployed business consultant, also slams UK manufacturers for failing to produce left-handdrive models. He says that vehicles sold on the Continent are simply right-hand-drive specification units adapted to be driven on the other side.

ERE says it is too expensive for it to set-up a sales and service dealer network on the Continent: "It is very easy to criticise, but it is difficult to sell capital goods into a foreign market," says a spokesman.
