• Go-Ahead Northern has lost its contract with the Northern Regional Health Authority to transport non-urgent hospital patients. The contract was run by Caring Cabs, part of GAN. It now goes to another taxi company, Target Taxis, and Northumbria ambulance service following a successful tender.

Go-Ahead Northern managing director Martin Bellinger says he is "gobsmacked" at the news. GAN expects to redeploy staff made surplus from the loss of the contract.

GAN has two subsidiary taxi companies — Metro Taxis, which has a big operation in Newcastle, and Caring Cabs.
