Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MERCEDES-BENZ unveiled its new Atego at Hanover on Tuesday morning and revealed that the heavier end of its Atego range would be part of the newly revised Axor family, which will now run train 18 to 26 tonnes, including rigids for the first time.

The Atego line-up will range from 6.5-15 tonnes; it has undergone significant interior changes including a much "bigger cabfeel which is less Spartan than current models, and is based heavily on the Actros. The seats, trim, heating, ventilation and bunks are all based round the firm's flagship model-they represent a significant increase in driver comfort.

Buyers will be able to choose from three "cockpit" styles: a distribution model which has good cross-cab access; a long-distance option with more storage; and a luxury option with even more storage and higher quality materials.

A four-cylinder engine with an increased displacement of 4.8 litres is also now available for the Atego. It develops 218hp, and will save 100kg against the comparable six-cylinder unit. A new nine-speed manual transmission replaces the 12-speed box and, as revealed in CM a few weeks ago. a fully automatic option is also available.

The changes to the upper end of the Atego range will see the Axor available as a rigid for the first time range has also been redesigned for more driver appeal. Four cabs are available, all with a new interior which is again based on its bigger stablemate, the Actros. As with the Atego, buyers will be able to choose from three "cockpit" styles. The Axor will be available as a 4x2 or 6x2 tractor, or a 4x2, 4x4 or 6x2 rigid; it will be powered by Merc's 6,4,7.2 or 12litre straight sixes.

John Baker, Merc's UK truck sales director, says the changes are designed to consolidate the firm's sales performance. I VECO HAS RETURNED to the IAA Show with a bang after a fouryear absence, surprising many pundits with the size and impact of its stand. One of the major highlights is the new Trakker, which supersedes the EuroTrakker. This new construction range uses a modified version of the Stralis cab, but mounted higher on the chassis, and completes the revamp of 1veco's CV line-up.

The Trakker range includes two, three and four-axled rigids, as well as a heavy-duty tractor; it's available with a choice of Cursor 8 or Cursor 13 engines, offering power ratings from 270 through to 480hp. Manual or automatic transmissions are available; braking is by front discs and rear drums.

Iveco also unveiled a 3.0-litre engine for the Daily, as well as a new six-speed automatic transmission developed jointly with ZE The new engine features high-pressure, common-rail injection technology and is rated at 136 and 166hp.

Other highlights from Iveco include the official launch of Euro-4 and 5 engines for its complete (Daily, EuroCargo and Stralis) line-up and a new 4x4 version of the EuroCargo. More details in next week's issue.
