• Delivery giant Federal Express is hoping to expand its UK international parcels operation following the announcement of improved results for the three months to August.
Losses fell by Ll6m to £22m in this country and the rest of Europe on a turnover of £356m.
A spokeswoman says: "Things are going well now, especially in the UK which is one of our most important markets. Expansion may be a possibility in the near future." The company is looking at increasing its number of airport operations.
Fedex currently operates 100 vans from railway depots in Enfield, Vauxhall and Girling Way and airport points at Heathrow, Stansted and Prestwick specialising in nextday deliveries to the US.
It is also in the home delivery sector with its Systemcare division.
The firm was radically restructured last Spring when it sold its UK parcel delivery operation to Securicor Omega Express for 127.1m.
Delivery operations in 10 countries across the Continent were also taken over by TNT Express Worldwide.
