QNE completely new model, two examples of a reorganized range and a modified double-decker chassis are the highlights on this stand. The new vehicle is the front-wheel drive Vendor 30-cwt. van (The Commercial Motor, August 26). Its most obvious features are a low loading line-1 ft. 74 in. unladen—and the easy access provided to the driver's seat and the body interior through the off-side door. The Vendor is exhibited with the Standard 2.26-litre four-cylindered oil engine
developing 57 b.h.p. An exploded drawing of the vehicle appears on page 296.
The Pax IV has resulted from rationalization of the Pax 11 and Pax III ranges. The latest version has a number of detailed refinements and an entirely new cab incorporating plastics panels. Only one of the two Pax IV shown is a standard model. It has a 105-b.h.p. oil engine, a four-speed constant-mesh gearbox and a spiral-bevel rear axle. This model has a vacuum-assisted hydraulic braking system with 16-in.diameter drums at the front and 15k-in.diameter units at the rear wheels. Lining widths are 31 in. and 5 in. respectively.
The other forward-control Pax IV is on 7.50-20-in. (12-ply) tyres and has a permitted gross weight of 9 tons 12 cwt. It is fitted with a non-standard power unit—the A.E.C.Maudslay four-cylindered oil engine, which develops 84 b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m. This vehicle also has a four-speed gearbox and vacuum-assisted braking. It carries brewer's bodywork.
The new Loline Mark III shown is only slightly different from the preceding Loline Mark II, an example of which is also exhibited. The Mark III with low-height forward-entrance double-deck bodywork has air suspension as standard at the rear, a new five-speed gearbox with a very low first gear, and a redesigned cab sub-structure which simplifies access to the engine. The chassis on view has a Gardner 6LW engine. The Loline Mark II also has air suspension at the rear, but is fitted with a 9.8-litre oil engine derated to develop 115 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m., driving the double-reduction rear axle through a four-speed gearbox. A 63-seat low-height body is fitted. A 14-ft. 5-in.-wheelbase Pax BVD low-loading model with a platform body, which is on display, can operate at up to 8 tons 14 cwt. gross and has a B.M.C. 5.1-litre engine and four-speed gearbox. A Perkins P4 55 b.h.p. oil engine powers the Heron chassis which is exhibited with van bodywork. This model has a gross running weight of 5 tons 16 cwt.
