Mr. G. D. Ramsay, of Western S.M.T., said that they held a licence to carry paisengers for the Scandinavian Airline System and Royal Dutch Airlines (K.L.M.). The coach service was provided under a guarantee and the difference between the fares collected-and the operating costs was made good by the airlines. This difference was increasing and was, in the company's view, now too large.

The Airline Traffic Committee for Scotland had agreed that the proposed new fares were reasonable. K.L.M. had opposed the increases and stated that the existing 7s. 6d, fare for the Prestwick Glasgow journey was extremely high in comparison with other fares all over the world.

Between January 1 and July 19 this year, the cost of the S.A.S. coach contract amounted to £2,763. Fares collected totalled £1,344 and S.A.S. had to pay a subsidy of £1,419.
