TRAILER MANUFACTURERS are forecasting an increasing demand for multi-axle trucks and drawbar trailers now that the annual taxation of a commercial vehicle relates to its gross weight and can be offset by an increased number of axles.

The use of aluminium and other lightweight materials is being exploited and this provides an increase in payload while maintaining constructional strength.

Saris Aanhangers By, Hapert, Holland, SARIS presents its range of trailers for the first time at the Motor Show and to introduce itself to the UK market it has developed the P2000 flat body, general-purpose trailer. Measuring 3.65 by 1.83m (12 x 6ft), it adapts to dropside, high cover or van body.

Ten models from its range of eighteen are destined for the UK market, ranging from its 317kg (6.25cwt) Speedy to its twinaxle, 1.5 tonne (1.5ton) P2000 model.

BROSHU1S will be attempting to catch the interest of those who specialise in moving long, large and indivisible loads by exhibiting four semi-trailers from its range of extendibles.

The four-axle semi-low loader has an extended lower deck length of 18.5m (60.7ft). The rear two axles are self-tracking for extra manoeuvrability with BPW parabolic spring suspension.

It has an ISO loading height of 65cm (26m) based on 700x12 tyres level with the loading platform. Lower deck length extends from 9 to 12.5m (29.5 to 41ft) in 50cm (19.7in) increments and has a payload capacity of 28.5 tonnes (28 ton). The extendible platform trailer on display also has hydrosuspension and Rubery Owen axles and is suitable for 38.6 tonnes (38 ton) gcw with '15-22.5 tyres, in tri-axle formation.

The platform extends from 12 to 21.3m (40 to 70ft) in 0.9m (3ft) increments with a central bolster.

A WEIGHT-SAVING curtainsided semi-trailer is among exhibits by Lawrence David. By using aluminium construction, the firm has evolved a lightweight version of its long, curtain-siders on trailers. The result is a 40ft tandem-axle curtain-sided semi-trailer weighing less than 4.7 tonnes (4.63 tons). Sliding side pillars have been added to the options on its "Trac-Cess" curtain-sided bodies to give full side-access when loading or unloading.

Craven Tasker, Darnall, Sheffield AN EXAMPLE of Cravens new, three model range of Task lowloader trailers makes its Motor Show debut.

Available in 42 ton, 48 ton or tri-axle 54 -ton gtvv form and designated E6 LB RN, the new low-loader range features a detachable goose-neck which can be raised 381mm (Thin) while coupled, to allow the trailer to go over humpback bridges. It can also be lowered to within 25.4mm (lin) of the

ground to negotiate low bridges.

The goose neck features concealed hydraulic rams and its full width top deck provides maximum tractor clearance and minimum overall trailer length.

All versions of the low loader incorporate Craven Tasker's own centre pivot suspension, and estimated tare weights are 7.2 tons for the 42-ton model, 8.2 tons for the 48 ton model and 10.25 tons for the 54 ton tri-axle model.

NEVILLE-CHARROLD is displaying the new product range that it has developed since its agreement with Trailor France.

It displays a tri-axle, tipping semi-trailer unit designed to carry 22 tonnes (21.6 tons), but capable of carrying 52 tonnes (51.2 tons) gross, off road.

The unit has a 9.19m (32ft 21n) aluminium body fitted with Edbro DS18 front-end running gear.

Trailor also displays its 12.2m (40ft) semi-trailer with Lambaret refrigerated grp body.
