Ray Smith Demountables, Oundie Road, Peterborough THE LATEST product from Ray Smith Demountables is a double-unit demountable body system on a drawbar trailer outfit designed around vehicles running at 7.5 tonnes (7.38 ton) gross.

Ray Smiths' ground-loading demountable body has hydraulic, retractable legs concealed within the body sides.

Guide rollers are located at both ends of the body so that the chassis can pick it up from either end. The unit is displayed in the form of a mobile exhibition and hospitality centre.

The Three-Five demount system for light trucks in the 2 to 3.5 tonne (1.96 to 3.45 ton) range is shown with its automatic front, body locking and orthodox rear twist locks.

Lawrence David, 1 Bishops Road, Peterborough THE REFRIGERATED curtainsider is a further development of Lawrence David's Rol lersider, in which the side curtains fold up to the roof under electrical power.

The curtains are doubleskinned with flexible foam insulation. The insulated Rollersider is particularly suitable for chilled transport providing clear sideentry for fast turn-arounds.

PEM Trailers, Wallisdown Road, Bournemouth A CHILLED-DELIVERY box van mounted on a Ford Transit 190 chassis cab marks PEM's launch into the refrigerated body market. Its body is of grp foam kit construction with approximately 83mm (3.27in) of high density polyurethane foam insulation. With a central plug type rear door and folding rear step, the body is fitted with a Hubbard 480 refrigeration unit for chilled operation.

PEM exhibits a short wheelbase Fiat Ducat°, mounted with its Luton type body which has a capacity of approximately 16.75 cum (598cuft).

The PEM Clipper mounted on continued overleaf a Ford P100 pick-up, is of modular construction with a Luton head, glass fibre roof and rear roller shutter closure giving 5.6cum (200cuft) capacity.

Another PEM exhibit is a grp ply construction box mounted on a Transit 190 chassis cab with diesel engine.

The interior is 3.35m (11ft) long, 2.1m (7ft) wide and 1.9m (6ft 3in) high and it incorporates an insulated roof, a sliding step and step-well, quarter doors, special non-slip floor and interior racking.

Also displayed is its Mark II Luton van, built on a Freight Rover Sherpa 225 chassis cab with a capacity of 1 2cum (429cuft)

Primrose Taillifts, Blackburn, Lancs THE Taillift division of Primrose displays a number of safety features on its products.

An automatic anti-rattle platform lock is shown, which engages when the lift platform is closed and is released manually by a lever set into the underside of the platform.

In the event of a lift cable failure, a wedging mechanism is activated which prevents tail-lift collapse.

Slots in the side columns are shielded by wrap-over channels as a further precaution against accidental damage.

Primrose gives a three-year guarantee and a fitting deal.

TELEHOIST displays a selection of its range of metric, front-end displacement tipping rams including its latest, tank-mounted MSR ram. This improved model has an extended, outer gland unit which permits the removal of either seal or tube without necessitating the complete extraction of the ram assembly from the ail tank in which it is mounted.

On display also is a new, improved 503 Load Lugger, one of six in Telehoist's range of hydraulically powered lever arm demountable container systems.

Originally introduced at the 1978 Motor Show, the improved 503 has rollers placed on the two stabilising jack legs to givi manoeuvrability and ground clearance to th end.

Boalloy, Congleton, Cheshire.

SOMETHING OLD, something new is the theme from Boalloy for its 1982 Show stand. It displays its first production model of the Tautliner curtainsided trailer from 1969, alongside one of Boalloy's latest creations, its spineback-bodied delivery vehicle.

To illustrate its progress since it was introduced 13 years ago, the original Tautliner, which still works daily for Louis Reece, has been divided centrally, one half being original and the other half brought up to 1982 standards.

The Spineback, which is based on the Localiner, is designed and produced by Boalloy in conjunction with York Trailer Equipment of Corby and features sliding PVC curtains and doors.

By rebuilding the body around its single spine, the loading platform has been lowered from 1.09m (431n) above ground level to 0.51m (201n), and its payload increased to 9.6 tonnes (9.5 tons).

Boalloy also features its latest refrigerated !nsuliner, which is a curtainsided trailer designed for carrying chilled freight at plus or minus five degrees centigrade.

To eliminate projection into the body when dry freight is back loadee, the latest Insuliner is equipped with a Petter refrigerator which has a remotely mounted evaporator to eliminate load encroachment by the unit.

NEVILLE CHARROLD's range of tipper and bulk fuel bodies for rigid chassis is represented by four vehicles. An Ultralite bathtub-type body is derived from the original 1972 version, and the much smaller Nipper-type body is designed for chassis grossing up to 3.5 tonnes (3.4 tons).

Two solid-fuel-carrying vehicles are exhibited, the hopper-bodied Auto-bagger with its belt-discharge weighing system, and the pneumatic discharge Tippermatic with its tipping gear recessed into the front bulkhead.

Wefford Truck Bodies, Hainge Road, Worley, West Midlands.

WELFORD features a 3cum (107cuft) light steel tipping body mounted on a Ford Cargo 0809 3.2m (10.5ft) wheelbase chassis.

The Weltip single drop side is fitted with Telehoist FR23 tipping gear. Its internal dimensions are 3.65m (12ft) long, 2.2m (7.2511) wide and its side height is 400mm (1.3ft). Unladen weight is 3.7 tonnes.

Massey International Coachbuilders, High Street, Market Weighton, York MASSEY is displaying a number of exhibits from its considerable range and among them is its refrigerated demountable body which is located on a Ray Smith, • Ten Plus demount frame. Cooling is by the Petter LOC2 diesel unit.

Also on show is its insulated body, mounted on a York drawbar trailer designed to transport crated milk for Peterborough Co-op. It will also accept refrigeration if required.

The trailer is equipped with a QH underrun bar and Clear Pass mud flaps.

An engineering workshop module is shown, which forms part of a ground support unit and is designed for use in the Middle East and Africa. Mounted on a Dodge 50Series is a medium temperature, multi-delivery unit in Walls Meat Co livery which has been manufactured to carry meat products in the 2 to 4.5°C (36° to 40°F) range. Construction is in Unit Panels latest sandwich form and cooling is achieved by a Hubbard plant with condenser and evaporator sections mounted on the front bulkhead.

The compressor for on-road duty is driven by the vehicle's engine and a separate set is operated by plugging in to electric mains for overnight cooling.

Buckingham Vehicles, Dalehouse Lane, Kenilworth, Bucks.

BUILT to order and exhibited by Buckingham Vehicles is a 12,000 litre (2,640 gallon) three-compartment petroleum spirit tank unit, complete with pressure, metering and hosereel equipment to facilitate deliveries of predetermined quantities of gas, oil and kerosene.

The tank and equipment is mounted on a Leyland Freighter 16.13 4.35m (14.3ft) wheelbase chassis.

A detachable manifold is fitted to the faucet outlets and foot valves are rod-operated from ground level. This eliminates the need to climb on the tank top when making metered deliveries.
