features to be seen on the new S104 tractive unit is shown with a day-cab version of the revised S10 cab and a Ritemixer 7cum (247cuft) truck mixer body.

This model employs American technology in the design of the bolted chassis frame which consists of high-tensile steel sidemembers joined by aluminium cross-members and forged aluminium gussets. The lightweight six wheeler's power unit is a Gardner 10.45-litre 6 LXCT sixcylinder turbocharged engine rated at 171.5kW (250bhp) at 1,900rpm and torque of 915Nm (673Ib1t) at 1,400rpm.

The nine-speed Fuller overdrive range-change box has a super low ratio of 14.05 to 1. Two of the latest features are relocation of the gear lever on top of the engine cowl and the new Cablecraft cable speed change.

The Foden FF20 all-bolted rub ber rear suspension has a bogie spread of 1.37m (4ft 6in). The front axle is a GKN 6.5-tonne unit with forged steel hubs. Spigot-mounted aluminium wheels contribute to the low overall unladen weight.

Completing the line up is the well-established Foden workhorse S108 8x4 rigid, powered by a Rolls-Royce 265L six-cylinder turbocharged 12.17 litre diesel engine developing 198kW (265bhp) at 1,900rpm and maximum torque of 1,090Nm (8041bft) at 1,200rpm.

Drive is taken through the Fuller RTX 11609B nine-speed overdrive range-change gearbox to a Rockwell SSHD tandem bogie with high-traction differential gearing and cross-axle differential lock on the trailing axle.

Rear suspension again is the Foden FF20 rubber design, while at the front, 6.1-tonne nominal capacity parabolic tapered leaf springs are fitted to twin Foden front axles with cone-mounted wheels.

Stand 541 ERF

ERF is well established in the heavy rigid market and this year introduces two new models plated for 31 tonnes gvw and 25.3 tonnes. Both have lightweight features in their engine, transmission and chassis components.

. With a wheelbase of 5.53m (18ft 2in), the 6x4 vehicle can take a maximum body length of 8.2m (27ft). It is fitted with the Gardner 6 LXCT turbocharged engine, producing 166.7kW (223.5bhp) and with a maximum torque rating of 914Nm (674Ibft).

The new generation Fuller nine-speed Multi-mesh overdrive gearbox is also fitted, and there is an ERF non-reactive suspension which supports Kirkstall double-drive axles at the rear. An aluminium fuel tank provides a capacity of 273 litres (60 gallons).

A Rolls-Royce 265L turbocharged unit powers the heavier four axle C-Series. A wheelbase dimension here of 3m (9ft 10in) provides for a 7.3m (24ft) platform or 7m (23ft) tipper body.

Stand 547 MAN

MAN's 30.240 VFK 8x4 tipper is also well established in the UK market place. It combines rugged construction with a reasonable payload capacity. The example on show has a 5.26:1 rear-axle ratio that gives a top road speed of 101km/h (63mph).

High-level all-round visibility is a feature of the distinctive semi-forward-control cab fitted to the 32.290 VHK on/off road tipper. A one-piece bonnet lifts up with the front wings to give easy access to its 180kW (240bhp) engine.
