LIFE FOR Eric Weetman would be that much more satisfying if a CM reader could give him a job. Although he was the top student in the Royal Society of Arts' road freight transport paper this year, he is still looking for a job.

He came to London last week with Sheffield bus driver Tony Martin, who was top student in the combined road freight and road passenger examinations, when both were presented with their £100 CM awards at the Fleet Management Conference by IPC Transport Press managing director Martin Morgan.

For Mr Martin, the biggest fear is that Transport Secretary David Howell's plans for a freeze on public transport fares could put his three-year-old job at stake. He worked in the insurance business for 17 years before being made redundant.

But for Eric Weetman, redundancy is a reality. After a career with the Royal Air Force and then as a motor mechanic and service receptionist with Ford and Leyland commercial dealers, he undertook a transport management course at Blackpool and Fylde College of Higher and Further Educationlast winter, but has been looking for a job since he completed his course in May.

He lives in Bristol now, and ideally wants to work in that area, as he and his wife have been settled there since 1976. But he is realistic enough to be prepared to go to any operator which wants his services and talents.

If you think you can help Eric, write to him c/o Commercial Motor, Room 304, Quadrant House, The Quadrant, Sutton, Surrey, SM2 5AS.
