FOR VOLVO Truck and Bus (Great Britain), this is the first NEC Show at which it can exhibit as a "British" manufacturer. The SMMT reclassified the Irvinebased company as such earlier this year (CM, August 21).

An example of the lightest of the Volvo range offered in this country can be seen with the F660 4x2 rigid, rated for operation at 16 tons. Fitted with the Volvo TD6OB engine developing 128kW (172bhp) and an eightspeed gearbox the Show model also sports a factory fitted sleeper cab.

Stand 531 DAF

DAF's range for the UK market begins at 16 tons with the 4x2 FA 2100 DH rigid.

A 12-speed ZF S6-36 splitter gearbox gives a weight saving of almost 150kg on the unladen chassis weight. Using the same revised N142 front axle as for the 3300 tractive unit, but with smaller tyres, it is plated here for operation at 6.5 tonnes. As with other DAF models, the cab trim has been updated. The wheelbase of 5.5m (181t) is the second longest of six options ranging from 3.65m (12ft) to 6.1m (20ft).
