I FEEL I must write to compliment Brian Weatherley on his article about Mr Ken Trowel' owner/driver, (CM September 25).

I, too, had to take redundancy, and bought my own Ford D1311 boxvan. I have been selfemployed for the last 10 months and have suffered several ups and downs in this time.

I agree with Mr Trowel! about maintaining my vehicle to a high standard, and, not having any facilities myself, have had to pay out quite a lot of money to achieve this.

I must admit I have had my moments of despair and come close a few times to throwing in the towel! However, I find his article very interesting and I must admit it has given me the confidence to carry on, and, I hope, expand, which is something I have been turning over in my mind for a while. I hope to be able to buy myself a tactor unit and branch out to give myself more scope. I shall employ someone to drive my van and carry on with the work I have been doing.

As in Mr Trowell's case, my wife runs the office side of the business which leaves me free to get on with my job.

Mr Trowell has worked hard to get where he is, and hopefully, with his advice, I too shall succeed in the "high risk" business.

Thank you once more for an illuminating, good sense article. Let's have a few more for the owner/driver!

PHILUP EARLE, Colne, Lancs.
