Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Seating ovality due to overtightening has been identified as one of the two major causes of wheel loss, but normally goes unchecked.

In 40m vehicle miles since Shell's own workshops have used the gauge, the company has not recorded a single case of wheel separation owing to wear or strain of seating in the wheel.

The gauge is precision-made in high-quality steel and mea

sures 125mm (4.9in 0.2in). It costs £92 from P.C. Watkins, Shell UK Oil, Shell Mex House, Strand, London WC2R ODK.

The engineering trend has moved towards the international standard fixing employing spigot-mounted wheels where the nuts and stud holes in the wheel are plain with no taper. However, many British manufacturers of trailers and chassis still offer conical fixing on some models.

THE KENNING Motor Group has opened a Commercial Vehicle Repair Workshop in Exeter Street, Derby.

The workshop, originally designed for heavy commercial vehicles repair work, is close to the city centre yet adjacent to the M1 major trunk roads and inner ring road network.

Skilled staff have been taken on to start the centre, which is being fitted out to cater for vehicles up to 14 tonnes gvw.
