• Owners of private buses and minibuses in West Lothian have formed an association to resist attempts to stop them transporting hundreds of workers to factories daily.
About 30 operators have joined the organization, agreeing to contribute to a fund which will be used to finance legal action.
One of the owners, Mr Thomas Weir, of Whitburn, said: "There have been instances recently where police stopped minibuses and told the drivers they were in breach of the law.
"We are providing a daily service on routes where the Eastern Scottish Company buses are unreliable or were withdrawn. We want a change in the law which is giving a virtual monopoly to this State-owned bus company."
