Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

itEast Midland Traffic Comissioners, under their chairman, Mr. Charles Hodgson, recently heard an application by a Fosdyke (Lines) bus operator to continue to charge lower fares than the Lincolnshire Road Car Co. Ltd. was charging along common sections of route; and, as a result, Lines Road Car Co. agreed to put its fares down by ld. or 2d. to bring them into line with the "small" operator, a Mrs. N. Cropley. (Last week's issue of The Commercial Motor.)

For Mrs. Cropley, it was said that fares were increasing to the point when fewer people were travelling by bus. What sound, sensible economics this appears to be.

Perhaps this will give heart to small operators who, because they run alongside larger companies, are forced to apply consequential fares increases— increases which all too often appear to be sought and granted willy-nilly by Traffic Commissioners.
