Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH a carrying capacity of 12 tons, VV and a fiat platform measuring 21 ft. 6 ins. by 7 ft. 2 ins., the trailer shown in the accompanying illustrations has a loading height of only 3 ft. 6 ins. This has been made possible by equipping each of the six wheels with twin 29 by 7 tyres.

To be used, in the main, for the transport of road-making and repairing machinery, this vehicle has just been built for New Impact Surfaces, Ltd., by Carrimore Six Wheelers, Ltd., North Finchley, London, N.12, and, in addition to the matter of its dimensions and capacity, has a number of other noteworthy points.

The floor of the body is steel lined, and under it are accommodated four 15-ft. loading ramps. When required for use, these are slid rearwards until their front ends engage with the ramp bar at the back of the body. On to them the tailboard is then lowered to bridge • the step between ramp and floor. To take the weight wedge-shaped pieces are fixed to the back of the tailboard and rest on the ramps.

To afford a rigid support to the rear of the body, during loading and unloading operations, a pair of bottle jacks is permanently attached under the back end, whilst further props, hinged to the undersides of the ramps, serve to sup

port these at their centre points. • Formed each in two sections, the sides are hinged, and when dropped hang vertically and flush with the edges of the floor, the idea being that it, will frequently be necessary for the trailer to travel with the sides lowered. On this account provision is made to secure them in the, dropped position. The front end of the trailer is also hinged, to give access to the forward-mounted winch.

The chassis follows Carrimore standard practice, the bogie being equipped with the company's wellknown compensating suspension system. Brakes on all wheels are operated by three Dewandre vacuum cylinders —two for the rear, one for the front. These can also be controlled by cable.
