UTNITY within the C.M.U.A. was the subject of comment by Mr. W, E. Macve, Manchester Area chairman, welcoming the guests to luncheon during the area vehicle parade last Saturday. Areas were at present very much separate entities, he said, but the time had come when it was necessary for them to be knitted together. A strike at the docks had resulted in an accumulation of work and the necessity of clearing this off had had it effect upon the parade.

Among the guests were Sir William Hart, North-Western Deputy Licensing Authority, :Col. A. Jerrett, . C.M.U.A. President, Mr. J. A. Webb (Transport and General Workers Union), Mr. J. C. Francis (United Road Transport Workers Association), and many C.M.U.A. :officials from other areas.

Probably the fact that it was the concluding week-end of the Blackpool Illuminations accounted for the smallness of the public-service-vehicle entry, which numbered only nine.: HOwever, nearly. 100 goods vehicles were lined .up at the Belle Vne car park for the inspection of the juclges during the morning.

After luncheon, the prizes were distributed by Mr. J. E. Woodford, M.B.E., clerk to the Traffic Commissioners and Licensing Authority, and the prizewinners set off in p4uring rain for a parade through Manthester. Cups were awarded as follow:—
