When Messrs. J. and T. Godfrey, of KeynS'ham, applied at BriStol recently for a contract licence, the suggestion was put forward on behalf of -the„ applicants that When an operator had-been-fined for offences' in .c.onnec7--. tion With :the: use of a .Contract 'licence and;had. been punished... ..for those offenCes, it did not seem right that they should be taken,. into consideration in conneCtiOn. with a further application.
In considering this submission, Mr. A. T. Nicholson, the Western Licensing Authority, said that the .point that arose was whether the applicant was a fit person to hold a licence. If a man had 'been prosecuted 'for oifences,' perhaps those offehces should not. be taken :into 'consideration again. If. however, he .subsequently cornmits other offences of a like kind, then these matters must be. borne in mind.
In the case in question three offences were alleged arid two admitted: The Licensing Authority reserved his decision.
Big Cut in Ferry Charge.
A big reduction in the charges for motor vehicles will take place when the new chain-ferry boat between Inverness, and North Kessock, on the Black Isle, comes into operation. The charge for all motor vehicles will be is., instead of 4s.

L.N.E.R. Sanctions New Purchases.
The London and North Eastern Railway Co. announces that, in view of the general increase in goods traffic at many of the stations in the northeastern area, arrangements are being made to improve the present facilities by the provision of additional vehicles for collection and delivery services. Authority has been given for the purchase of eight lorries, 25 mechanicalhorses and 70 trailers, varying from 1.1 ton to 6 tons capacity. The purchase of two additional vans for the collection and delivery of parcels conveyed by passenger train has also been authorized.
