in Scotland has now dried up. but training companies say paying for the course is still worthwhile because it can cut fuel bills and carbon dioxide emissions.
The government-funded Sated scheme was designed three years ago by a consortium of leading industry specialists to improve driving techniques. The Saled Scotland scheme was launched last year; more than 1,000 drivers received government funding for the course.
Now that funding has run out, training companies like GTG are promoting the course on a commercial basis.GTG is running one-day courses in Edinburgh and Glasgow for operators and individual drivers.
Billy Hammond, transport training manager at GTG, says:"I personally believe this is one of the best courses ever to have come out of the transport industry — although it is difficult to persuade some people who are very sceptical about training."
A one-day driver training course at GTG costs £250.
