• A series of truck accidents brought traffic chaos to the M5 last week.

There were three major incidents on Wednesday 15 November, the most spectacular of which involved a hazardous-goods truck which burst into flames, closing both carriageways around the Strensham services.

Ten fire crews from the Gloucestershire and Hereford and Worcestershire brigades were called in to tackle the blaze amid fears that gas canisters *tit explode.

Earlier in the day a colli sion between two trucks scattered 400 beer kegs across the M5 southbound between J14-15 in Avon.

Neither driver was seriously hurt but police closed five lanes of the motorway for almost four hours.

Further north, Gloucester police closed the

northbound motorway between J9-11 after a threetruck pile-up that left one driver in hospital with severe chest, leg and abdominal injuries.

Motorists described the tailbacks as horrendous.
