Leyland (India) are being evaluated in a fleet of 750 London Buses Routernasters. LBL says that the service evaluation is not part of a replacement programme for Routemaster engines, but as the original AEC engines become increasingly difficult to maintain, LBL is expected to use data from the trial to make a decision whether to refurbish its Routemasters or build a replacement.
Oxford bus ban • PSVs will again run in parts of Oxford city centre which were previously subjected to a bus ban, but only outside shopping hours. Transport secretary Cecil Parkinson, in response to an appeal from Thames Transit, London Country Bus North-West and the City of Oxford Motor Services, ruled that traffic congestion is only severe enough to warrant a ban between 08:00 and 18:00hrs Mondays to Saturdays. Parkinson promised that future congestion problems in Oxford would not be tackled with a blanket bus ban.
LB Delta The first two-door Daf SB 220-based Optare Delta bus for London Buses is now running on a rail replacement route during engineering work between Peckham and Clapham. The vehicle, based at Walworth Garage, will subsequently move on to a Red Arrow route in the West End.
