L. GARDNER and Sons is displaying three engines this year.
The 15.5-litre 6LYT, rated at 239kW (320hp) at 1,800rpm with a torque of 1398Nm, gives a popular power-toweight ratio for operation at 38 tonnes and high-powered four-axle rigids. A slightly more powerful version, rated at 246kW (330hp), has made an impact on the luxury double-deck coach market where it is an option for Neoplan and
Plaxton's 41)00 three-axle chassis.
A more usual engine for eightwheelers is the (ILX1)T, which is available in three power ratings startim: at 187kW (25/ hp) and on show at 201kW (27/lip). This 12.7-litre engine is also being specified in the 28 tonnes and above tractive unit market.
The five-cylinder 51.XT, rated at 138kW (185hp) at 1,90urpm, is a compact engine intended Inc both 16tonne 4 x 2 rigid trucks and double deck stage carriage buses.
