Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FORD has a total of 10 commercial vehicles at this year's show, exhibited by five of its truck specialist dealers.

The Fiesta van, Ford's smallest light CV. has a maximum 373kg payload and is available with a ChOlcc (0975LT, Or 1,1174.-c petrol or 1.6-litre diesel engines. Ford 'Trucks' stand features the latter version. With its standard five-speed gearbox this vehicle produced outstanding results (57.24nmg) around our light van route (CAL November 29, 1984).

Two trim levels are offered: Popular and the 1_, which is featured on the show model.

Although the Escort Val/ has three petrol engine options it also shares the 1.6-litre diesel unit. The Escort on view has this engine which, with the standard tive-speed gearbox. also proved frugal. When we tested it. it returned 46.1mpg (CM, July 28, 1)84).

Although a Sierra pick-up has recently been sighted undergoing trials, Ford's PHE continues as its top-selling pick-tip truck. l'he model shown has a 23111111 increased door height giving improved entry. Larger air extractor vents

improve the vehicle's ventilation.

The Transit. now in its 20th year and

with more than two million units sold, is also displayed. Three are shown: a 100 Custom van with the two-litre engine; a 14-seater Custom bus with four-wheel drive (a County Tractors conversion with a part-time transfer box and freewheeling hubs); and a 190 Custom chassis cab.

The latter has the 2.5 Di direct injection diesel which develops 52kW (69hp) at 4,00Orpro and is said by Ford to be 15 per cent more fuel efficient than its predecessor. The show model has a Walker-built body.

Ford's successful Cargo range extends from 5.7 to 38 tonnes and includes truck, tipper and tandem chassis as well as tractive units, The smallest Cargo on display is the 7.5-tonne 0811 and is the largest vehicle which can he driven on a car licence.

The show model has the six-litre 85kW (114hp) engine and a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. Power steering is standard, but the front axle has been uprated from 2,900 to 3,200kg. The vehicle is equipped with a 4.9m Penman Polarbox insulated body.

Also on show is a 16.25-tonne 1615 tipper. The vehicle is powered by Ford's turbo-charged six-litre diesel which develops 112k W (151hp) at 2, 400rpm. The exhaust brake and eight-speed gearbox are now standard on these models.

The Cargo's 4,6m Edbro steel tipper body is operated by Ebro 4 LNC: front end tipping gear.

The third Cargo exhibit is a 1624 16.25-tonne truck chassis for drawbar operation. It is powered by a Cummins 10-litre turbocharged engine developing 181kW (243h p) at 2,100rpm, and has a wheelbase of 5.6m.

Other features of the show vehicle include a 4.33 rear-axle ratio with dill'lock. It is fitted with a curtain-sided body by Fulton incl Wylie. Options specified include an additional 115-litre fuel tank, an air dam and factory fitted drawbar coupling.

The final exhibit is a Cargo 3224 tractive unit also powered by a Cummins 10-litre diesel.
