CRAVEN TASKER has four exhibits on show. '[hey include the CS 30/40 tandem-axle curtain sided semi-trailer designed and built at the company's Woodville, Burton-on-Trent plant. It measures 12.2m internally and offers a side aperture of 2.9m under the cantrail. At the rear, steel doors are fitted with bolted hinges and integral with the rear door-frame assembly is an open-style rear bumper, A Task MK II wind deflector is fitted with special aluminium panel to protect the steel headboard. Three fixed posts down the centre line support a one-piece aluminium roof.
The trailer includes Lucas Girling Skidcheck, and ROR axles with twohue air brakes and a third. superimposed.
Also on display is a Task tri-axle stepframe trailer from Lochgelly. It has a 42m3 all-welded aluminium-alloy body.
The bulkhead is reinforced with a heavy-duty top rail and the top-hung rear door is also reinforced.
At the front is a heavy-duty tipping rani. The chassis is mounted on Rubery Owen independent air suspension which can lift the leading axle. From the company's Garstang plant is a "[ask Super Slider van body mounted on a Renault GI70 16-tonner with a 4.8m wheelbase. The design includes two sliding doors on each side, a dry-freight wide slat roller shutter, and a one-tonne Bonnyman three-way tail lilt at the rear.
The fourth exhibit is a pedestrian controlled tug unit designed to move both laden and unladen semi-trailers. A GREASE-filled axle, said to incur reduced maintenance costs, is the main feature of the Crane Fruehauf stand. The unit is equipped with high-coefficient linings which have optimum wear and anti-fade characteristics. ISO spiggot hub and anti-lock braking are standard.
The Fruehauf axle is shown with the recently introduced T-system air suspension which has a patented singleheight control valve. This automatically inflates or deflates the air bags to maintain a constant deck height irrespective of the load being carried.
Having been the first UK trailer manufacturer to introduce robotics into its production process, Crane Freuhauf is showing its 1:100,0tIO robot which assembles and welds part of the Cr suspension system in less than half the time taken by conventional methods. It is seen as a pilot scheme which could revolutionise trailer manufacture.
