GENERAL manager of Cum
berland Motor Services, Peter Townley, is to leave the National Bus Company subsidiary at the end of the year to join a Manchester independent coach and bus Operator.
Townley, who started his career in the industry as a charting clerk in London's Victoria coach station in 1960, is joining A. Mayne and Son, a company which has bc.'en operating since 1920.
After a two-year management traineeship with the British Electric Traction Group at Stockport. Townley spent live years with Southdown Motor Services. That was followed by posts in the North East, 1.ancashire and Yorkshire with NBC corn
panics before he moved to his present job with CMS.
He played a leading role in Cu mbe.irla nd 's competition with an independent, Yeowarts Coaches, for local trilltic in Whitehaven.
• Senior appointments have been made to two new subsidiary companies which will be taking over the bus and coach operations of Alder Valley under a restructuring to take place from January 1.
Richard Whitbread is to be manager of Alder Valley (North).
At present Whitbread is company secretary of Eastern National at Chelmsford.
The second company, Alder Valley (South) will he headed by AV's existing general manager. Brian Hirst.
