MEASURES by the distrilm0031 industry to counter 'the extra fuel costs caused by the demand tor more frequent and smaller goods deliveries were outlined last week by Nanonal Freight Consortium chairman Sir Peter Thompson.
He told a national energy management conference at the National Exhibition Centre that a minimising influence was the consolidation of deliveries, allowing the use of larger, more energy efficient vehicles, although this was not much loved by the conservationists.
Other factors included the design of better distribution systems, using fewer hut larger warehouses and fewer transhipments, even at the expense of more delivery mileage.
Then there was more efficient vehicle routeings.
