AN application was made to vary the conditions on three express carriage services operated jointly by the North Western Road Car Co. Ltd. and the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co. Ltd. between Manchester and London, before the North Western Traffic Commissioners on Tuesday.

Mr. F. D. Walker, for the companies, said that in addition to the one vehicle journey operated at each scheduled departure time on each service, they wanted the following extra duplicate vehicles to be operated in aggregate during the following months: January 434, February 399, March 434, April 420, May 496, June 480, July 756, August 837, September 540, October 496, November 420 and December 496. For the holiday periods of Easter, Whitsuntide and Christmas, 42 extra duplicate vehicles were sought. This was a composite allowance covering all operations on the three services authorized under the licences and backings granted to the applicants. The maximum number of vehicles to be operated on any one day should not exceed 10 per cent of the appropriate aggregate monthly allowance.

The chairman, Maj.-Gen. A. F. J. Elmslie, reserved his decision.
