commissioner Marcia Davies has issued a formal warning to Leicester-based haulier GTA Transport after it failed to prevent employees committing drivers' hours offences.
At an April public inquiry in Cambridge, the deputy TC was told that the haulier had been convicted at Leicester Magistrates' Court in relation to 41 driving regulations offences. These included 12 instances where drivers for the firm had not taken sufficient rest within a 24 hour period. The company was fined £5,125.
A Vosa traffic examiner discovered that drivers at the firm — authorised to operate 12 vehicles and 12 trailers — had failed to record their non-driving duties, as required.
In addition, the examiner identified breaches of the weekly rest requirements, with one driver short of his rest by 11 hours and 10 minutes.
Several prohibitions and fixed penalty notices had also been issued to vehicles operated by the business. Amanprit Singh, transport manager at GTA, told the deputy TC he had undertaken a transport manager CPC refresher course and that the relevant procedures were now in place to monitor drivers in the future.
Summing up GTA Transport gave several undertakings to the deputy TC, including one that it would provide existing and new drivers with further training on drivers' hours rules.
