Bob Reed keeps an eye on new truck models and used truck trends at CAP "Renault was the first to introduce common-rail injection into a heavy truck," he says. "The Premium 420's power is impressive. It comes in smoothly and progressively. In some quarters there were doubts that common-rail injection would give the same reliability as conventional systems in a heavy truck application but it is standing up very well so far.
"The Premium has been the success that Renault was waiting for to turn the company's fortunes around in the UK. Most operators want the high-roof Privilege cab—the low roof is almost a delete option. It has been well received by the drivers and many say they prefer it to the Scanla cab. Who would have said that would over happen?
"With the demise of City Trucks there will be a large number of Premiums available on the used market but we believe Renault have become involved so that they don't all appear at the same time.
"Our earliest prices are for the Premium 420 models first registered in 2001. We value a 6x2 with the Privilege cab at 138,500 and with the standard sleeper cab at £4,500 less. The 4x2 units are listed at 133,500 and £29,250 and the prices are a lot stronger than for earlier 385 models."
