Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LWB TRANSIT WHEEIS • Ford has asked its dealers to contact the owners of 15,000 long-wheelbase Transits manufactured between February and November 1986. To check the torque settings of the 12 nuts which secure the twin rear wheels to the hubs.

Reports from dealers have indicated that it is possible that on some of these Transits a small number of the rear wheel nuts may not have maintained their initial clamping loads. This may result in the inner wheel rim working loose and causing damage to the outer wheel. The threads of the wheel studs and the rear hubs could also be affected.

The inspection of the rear wheel assemblies and the resetting of the wheel nuts together with the insertion of locating cones between the inner wheel and the hubs to ensure that the correct torque setting is maintained takes 40 minutes and will be completed free of charge.

If any damaged components are identified during the inspection they will be replaced free of charge. All longwheelbase models of the Transit manufactured since November 1986 which have twin rear wheels, have been fitted with the inner wheel locating cones.
