• The Government has approved a new RO-RO ferry system for the outer north isles of Orkney. The system will comprise two new ferries and a terminal expansion at Kirkwall and completes a fiveyear improvement of the islands' ferry links.
The two RO-ROs will serve the isles of Westry, Stronsay, Eday and Sandav RO-R0 RAMSGATE 111 Roll-on/roll-off Port Ramsgate, part of the Sally Group, which has undertaken a multi-million pound development to establish Ramsgate as a major Channel gateway, is prepared to consider providing container loading and other facilities.
Current users include Sally Line, with five daily return crossings to Dunkirk, and freight-only Schiaffino, three times daily to Ostend.
Reg Cooper, who has a background in distribution management, has been appointed chief executive of Port Ramsgate.
