• No action has been taken against the licence of Wishawbased Scotmove following its appearance at disciplinary proceedings before the Scottish Licensing Authority Hugh McNamara in Glasgow.
The company currently holds a licence for eight vehicles and 20 trailers in possession, with one vehicle and 20 trailers to be acquired. Evidence was given that between the middle of 1985 and the end of 1986 five immediate and 15 delayed prohibitions had been placed on its vehicles. On a number of occasions further defects were found when vehicles were presented for clearance. General manager, John Bruce, reported that the problems had arisen after he left the company to go to York Trailers in the summer of 1985. He was subsequently persuaded to return.
The Freight Transport Association has now been called in to advise the company. Bruce accepted that the ETA's report, dated February 1987, did not show a very satisfactory state of affairs.
He claimed, however, that the company was already acting on the recommendations made.
McNamara says that he proposes to take no action other than to record a warning as the licence is due to expire at the end of the year. He has warned, however, that the maintenance situation will be looked at very closely before the licence is renewed.
