Another presentation, on Monday of this week, was in recognition of setvice to three generations of haulage management Matthew (Mickey) Walker, office manager of F. Short and Sons, in 40 years with the company has worked for F. K. Short, his father William Short (now a very active 75) and his grandfather Fred Short, who founded the firmin 1915.
Mr. Walker joined at 14 when the company had horse wagons, and recalls that one of his first haulage jobs was to transport a whale from a ship in the Tyne to the Town Moor, where it was shown at "the Hoppings" annual fair.
