Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

There have been some very convincing reasons put forward from time to time for not erecting crash barriers on the central reservation of motorways, but I must say that personally witnessing an over-the-centre accident or its aftermath tends to make one a powerful advocate of protection. The incidence of vehicles crossing from one carriageway to another seems to be on the increase. Telltale skid marks starting on one carriageway, crossing the centre and finishing on the other side, usually in a large oil patch, is to be seen all too often, particularly on Ml. Have the trade associations, I wonder, looked into this deeply and made representations to the Ministry? The prospect, when travelling at motorway speeds, of having an uncontrolled projectile suddenly hurled into one's path is just too daunting for comfort.
