Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Yorkshire /Blackpool Pool operators were granted a variation to their Doncaster-toBlackpool excursions licence by the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners in Leeds last week.

Mr. J. E. Hanson, for the applicants, said that the purpose of the application was to rationalize the services and produce a workable timetable. The variations were to terminate the 11.55 Blackpool to Huddersfield service at Halifax and only operate it on the second and third Saturdays of the Halifax holidays; withdraw the 14.30 Halifax to Blackpool service; and during the Halifax holidays operate an excursion to Blackpool at 7.30.

Mr. T. A. Dunstan, manager of Hebble Motor Services Ltd., Halifax, was called as spokesman for the group of five companies, the other four being Ribble Motor Services Ltd., Preton, West Yorkshire Road Car Co. Ltd., Harrogate, Yorkshire Traction Co. Ltd., Barnsley, and Yorkshire Wollen District Transport Co. Ltd., of Devvsbury. He said the two major causes of the application were traffic congestion and the fact that large numbers of passengers travelled at one particular time in the day.
