• Appearing for the second time in three years at a Section 178 inquiry, F. Bullock (Hauliers) Ltd.. of Worcester, had a vehicle removed from its licence for one month. Mr. J. Else, the West Midland LA, said at the inquiry in Birmingham last week, that although improvements had been made since April 1967 the company was not entirely free from blame as regards maintenance.
Mr. C. Breese, an MoT examiner, said that he had issued seven prohibitions, one of which was immediate, after a fleet inspection on January 28 this year. Two other GV9s had been issued prior to this check. Mr. Breese said that adequate maintenance facilities were available but the system was not being operated properly. A further visit to Bullock's premises on May 13 showed that improvements had been made but technical inspections remained unsatisfactory.
Mr. G. A. Bullock said that plating and testing requirements had crowded his maintenance programme.
Mr. M. J. Carless, for Bullock, said that Mr. Bullock's father had died recently and supervision of the company had been difficult. He emphasized the point that the 1967 warning had been heeded and asked for leniency.
