Sheet glass, with a number of sheets in a block, is being transported swiftly and safely by road and sea in specially constructed containers. Pilkington Brothers Ltd„ of St. Helens have introduced this type of container for shipments to Europe, America and Australia. It is an open-top 20 ft ISO model with builtin racks to enable blocks to be unloaded by grab.
Members of the Norwegian Glaziers Association on a recent visit to Pilkingtons works inspected the containers and also saw a demonstration of a container being loaded with 18 tons of packed glass in only half an hour.
