GOVERNMENT policy on tolls is unfair, unsound and inconsistent, the Automobile Association has told the House of Commons all-party transport committee.
In written evidence for the committee's inquiry into tolls on estuarine crossings, the AA said the current policy was unfair because it lumped all the contributions towards crossings on to the users, although a much greater number of people benefited from them.
The policy was unsound, it said, because interest charges have inflated the monies owed well beyond the initial construction costs.
