LEYLAND'S National 2 single-decker is unlikely to resemble the Ribble prototype which appeared at last year's Birmingham Motor Show.
Sources close to the operating industry suggest that the company has reverted to a layout with a front-mounted radiator and a restyled windscreen. This may be modelled on the design used by Leyland's Danish associate DAB on its top-market single-deck range.
The basic change in National 2 is the adoption of the new 680-derived TL11H lightly-turbocharged engine in place of the 500-Series, which the company is dropping.
Ribble's prototype 11.3m National 2 shares the current model's rear radiator, and is finished to the basic specification of the 10.3m Series-B rural National.
