ALTHOUGH the number of C-licensed goods vehicles. in Britain continues to grow 'substantially year by year, the latest figures issued by the Ministry of Transport show that the rate of numerical growth has levelled off slightly. The total number of C-licensed vehicles at the end of 1961 was 49,386 higher than in December, 1960, whereas the rise in the previous year (195960) had been 66,502. Bin for 1958-59-the increase was sinly 38,615 and for 1957-58 it was 29,081. Although the numerical growth slowed down last year, the accompanying table shows that there has been a steady increase in. the totals of heavier vehicles (i.e.; exceeding .3 tons, unladen) while in the 11-3-toti classes there have been slight falls.

Vehicles up to 1-1tons, however,.continue to increase.

At December, 1961; the total -number of operators showed a rise of 8,242 over the previous year, compared with an increase of 7,338 between 1959 and 1960. •
