U.S. FORD TO ENTER NEW MARKET

IT was revealed in the U.S. recently 1 that the Ford Motor Company is to enter the original-equipment-manufacturers' market with an extensive line of parts and accessories such as sparking plugs, batteries, generators. carburetters, electric motors and approximately 50 other parts. These will be offered to manufacturers of all kinds of commercial vehicles, boats, aircraft, farm implements and industrial equipment.

CUMMINS ENGINES FOR DODGE

THE Dodge Division of the Chrysler Corp., Detroit, is to offer a lighter weight diesel engine in some of its larger commercial vehicles this summer. The engine, the V6-200 Cummins, is said to be 580 lb. lighter than competitive diesels. Dodge recently chose British Perkins engines for its medium ,duty lorries.

HARVESTER MAY BUILD NEW PLANT IN ENGLAND THE International Harvester Co. may decide soon to enter the European Common Market. In announcing this, Mr. H. G. Bercher, executive vice-president of the company, said that for such step to be taken a new European plant costing millions of dollars would be located either in England or Germany.

JEEPS TO BE ASSEMBLED IN N. RHODESIA

PLANS for the establishment of an assembly plant for the production of Jeep vehicles in Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia, were announced recently by C. W. Moss, executive vice-president of Willys Motors, Inc. An African company, Rhodesian Motor Assemblers, Ltd., will operate a factory to be constructed for the company by the Lusaka municipality, Mr. Moss said. The company will market Jeep vehicles throughout the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland.

WHITE EXPANSION

PRODUCTION of the White Motor Co.'s Reo and Diamond T lorries was consolidated last year at the firm's division at Lansing, west of Detroit. A further addition to the works will increase output to 52 units daily. White's Lansing production of 5,000 units last year was a 38 per cent, increase over 1960 output—mainly the result of orders for military vehicles.
