A PPL1CATIONS by Ribble Motor Ser
vices, Ltd., of Preston, to vary the conditions on two express licences under which they operate between Liverpool and Blackpool, were partially successful when the company appeared before the North Western Traffic Commissioners at Manchester last week. Mr, R. D. Walker,. for Ribble, told the Commissioners that Ribble wanted to operate the 5.15 p.m. Blackpool-Liverpool journey from the Thursday before Easter until the last Sunday in September; they wished to retard the 9.10 p.m. journey, and wanted extra Liverpool Pier-Blackpool journeys.
The abolition of the Fleetwood-Isle of Man steamship services must lead to additional traffic making its way to Liverpool, and Ribble, as regular road carriers, should take a reasonable share.
Mr. J. Booth. for British Railways, suggested that there should be a vehicle limitation on the particular timing required. This vehicle would satisfy the whole of the need.
After a short adjournment, the new chairman of the Commissioners, Maj.-Gen. A. F. J. Elmslie, giving the decision, said that the proposed variation in respect of the additional journeys was acceptable, but with a limitation of one vehicle. The proposal to operate a 5.15 p.m. journey until the last Sunday in September was also granted.
