WE are determined within the next month that an application will go from this organization to the Road Haulage Wages Council demanding an increase this year." This was said by Mr. Alex Kitson, general secretary of the Scottish Horse and Motormen's Association at the Association's annual conference last week, and he went on to criticize the "meagre treatment handed out by the wages council." The workers intended to make it clear to the employers that they wanted a share of the massive profits in the transport industry, he declared.
Any attempt to impose increased speed limits for commercial vehicles would be opposed. said Mr. Kitson. Scottish haulage drivers would not operate the 40 m.p.h. limit: 30 m.p.h. was fast enough.
