Mr. A. Prentice, chairman of the _Scottish Co-operative Transport Association, made these statements at . that body's annual meeting in Glasgow, last week.

Mr. J. Dick, M,P, spoke of the importance of costing systems, in which,

he said, there should be greater uniformity among societies. The time was coming when every opponent of co-operative trading would endeavour to reduce distributive costs to a minimum, and societies would have to follow suit.

Costing, said Mr. Dick, enabled a society to find out the cost of efficiency and revealed inefficiency. It showed exactly where a society was failing to make the grade, and where economy could he practised. Progress in reducing expenses could also be . indicated and a comparison between one vehicle and another and one period and another could be provided. How
