THE committee stage of the Transport (Amendment) Bill was due to have taken place in the House of Commons on Wednesday. The standing committee consisted of 49 members, 25 of them Socialists, 23 Conservatives and one Liberal. The chairman was Mr. J. Diamond, Labour M.P. for the Blackley division of Manchester.

The Socialist members included some of the most bitter opponents of freedom for the C-licensee.

CONTINENTAL FUEL PRICES

S.C.W.S. CUTS SKYE SERVICES

BUS operators in Skye may be forced to discontinue their services because of the bad state of the roads. This fear was expressed by Mr. A. Robertson, Scottish Deputy Licensing Authority, at a sitting in Inverness last week.

S.C.W.S., Ltd., was given permission to reduce certain services until the end of April. A representative stated that the buses were running at a loss.

The question will be reviewed in October.
